All you need to do is look at the other cars they offered at the time are 
going for now too.
Look at the GTI; Those things are around 23k or so right now.  That's 
crazy.  My wife bought
a Neon RT 3 years ago for 14K(just under what the Rocs were going for 10 
years earlier) and
it has comparable performance, is reliable and isn't too bad of a car.  The 
RT would be the
modern day competition for a new Scirocco; value wise the Scirocco, 
unfortunately would
lose.
