Wow Dan,
Completely the oppsite here, love my 00 Golf TDI and have gotten great
service here locally.
I agree, I'm totally enjoying my 99 NewBeetle TDI, although I've recently had
a (scary, serious) relay problem with it which was quickly diagnosed by the
dealer despite it not showing a code to guide the way for the mechanics. And
the service manager took the car home (with my permission) to make sure it was
really fixed before I had further problems. And they didn't even charge me a
full hour's labour. (and yes, they replaced the fuel) So the service has been
fine.
But back to the NewScirocco issue, don't modern safety standards make our
delightful featherweight cars a thing of the past? (at least within an
affordable cost framework) It is also clear that VW is trying to nip at the
BMW/Mercedes market with the new Passat, making the emphasis on upscale luxury
boats instead of small and fun cars. The money and volume is in the luxury
class. Simple business.
