another seat question

Hey Folks,
    I have a seat question.... here's some background....  Bought a replacement
drivers seat a couple months ago from a local VW salvage.  Was told it was a
scirocco seat.... looked the same.  I fixed a couple of rips in the vinyl and
installed it.  It went it with no problem, but it is 1.5 - 2 inches taller than
original with the height adjustment at the lowest point.  Looking more closely
it doesn't have a tilt lever, but is height adjustable.  Also, the bottom
cushion is longer than the stock seat (it reaches the back of my knees where
the stock doesn't)  Obviously this seat is not the same, my guess is it is from
a 4 door jetta or golf (no tilt.)

It is more comfortable, which is what I was after.  However, the steering wheel
is now too close to my legs, and don't really like sitting up higher.  So my
questions are: does anyone know of a way to change the front rail to be lower,
and what is the diameter of a stock steering wheel?
