tire choice

My tires are really looking pretty sad these days.  With winter coming, and 
inspection coming I need some new tires.  I plan to have new, larger wheels 
on in the spring, but I need a set of cheap tires for the teardrops that 
will get me through the winter.  I live in NJ so I don't need snow tires, 
but something with decent traction and handling, but at a low price, as they 
will be ditched or stored come spring.

Any suggestions?
