Cop Stories!!
I have a few stories real quick:
1. Going to work one day and noticed a newer white Volvo wagon behind me
with a couple kids in it (probably playing with mom and dad's turbo 850) as
I got on the freeway. Once I got up to speed (about 70ish) I notice the
Volvo right behind me and wanting to pass me. Since I was in the left lane
already I figured I'd mess with them a little as they were trying to pass on
the right. I knew it wouldn't be long before I would have to let off since
I had slower traffic in my lane and they were able to get by the car in
front of me and then get over in front of it. I was rather surprised
because it was a pretty gutsy move because there wasn't much room there for
the Volvo to fit. About another mile revealed all as I saw red and blue
flashing lights coming from the back of the Volvo and they pulled the car
over that they tried so hard to get behind. Slowing as I passed, I noticed
them looking at me/my car as they were getting out of the Volvo and giving
me a grin like "we had you fooled didn't we!!", they certainly did!! I now
look for the exempt markings on the plates since I have seen trucks,
minivans, Volvos, Taurus', Corvettes, Mustangs, etc. as cops, but the Volvo
did catch me off guard!!
2. I was coming home from my new job in Seattle after moving from Oregon to
Washington and was just getting used to the difference in speed limits
(70mph between Portland and Olympia and 60mph from Olympia all the way past
Seattle). I GUESS I was going a little over 70 when I passed under an
overpass and saw a cop just on the other side. I realized there was no way
they were gonna let me off as I we pulled to the side of the road. I
realized that I could get into some trouble since I hadn't changed my
license or registration yet and I had moved about 4 months ago (I was
busy!). So, when the cop came back to my car to give me the verdict he said
"You know it's 60mph here right?" I didn't even think before I said this
"No, I didn't realize that". Then he said "Well, you were going 72 and the
70mph zone doesn't start until after Olympia". I just said "Thanks" and
went home (to Olympia). IF I had changed my license and registration I
probably would of gotten a ticket but apparently he thought I still lived in
Oregon!
3. On my way to work there is a road that is county and doesn't have a
speed limit on it until about half way down the road when it reduces to
35mph. It even has a "Reduced Speed Ahead" sign posted. I was pulled over
in the area without a speed limit for doing 50 in a 40. When I told the cop
that it was a county road and there wasn't a posted speed limit (which makes
the speed limit 50 here in WA on unposted county roads) he started to
question himself and and stuttering (sorta funny) because he realized that
he stopped me under false pretenses and had already filled out a ticket
which could not just be torn up because of the checks and balances system
they have. So he coached me on how to get out of the ticket. Pretty
funny!!
4. On my way to work after lunch (since I now work close enough to home
that I go home for lunch) I knew I was cutting it a little close so I sped a
little. I was following a Suburban that was speeding a little but since I
was in the back I was pulled over. The cop asked me if I could afford to
work for free today and proceeded to tell me how much the ticket WOULD HAVE
been if he were to give me one. I gave me a written warning and told me
that he only warns people once, after that there is no excuse. Well, the
next day I was pulling out of the corner store (getting my morning fix) and,
apparantly, accelerated too much. I was again pulled over and it was the
same cop. He asked me again if I could afford to work today for free and I
told him no. Then he took my information and went back to the his car. I
thought for SURE I was caught this time since he already gave me a written
warning and I was in the computer. When he came back he told me gave me a
written warning and said that he only warns people once, after that there is
no excuse!! He did say I looked familiar but I didn't expand on that. Hee
Hee!
I have probably been pulled over 20 to 30 times and about 3/4s of the time
deserved it and still have no tickets!! I don't know what it is that
protects me but I'm not one to question it. I have calmed down my driving
over the years and when I do want to drive a little wild I do it
intelligently. Drive safe everyone and have a nice day!!
