Re: thoughts on breathing - long
First, I appreciate all the comments I've received so far. I think I need
to add a little bit of background, though. First, the exhaust is not even
close to stock. I replaced the toilet bowl with a Pacesetter header feeding
into 2 1/2" pipe, high-flow cat and DynoMax muffler. It's a bit (OK, a lot ;))
loud, but I doubt it's providing any significant restrictions. The head was
recently done including polishing (wasn't port matched for various reasons, but
it's close). So, the biggest restriction, to my mind, is on the intake side, as
long as we ignore the valves and cam for now.
I think the key phrase in the below response is "after a point".
Eventually, my goal is to have the intake and exhaust able to provide more air
than the intake manifold and head (with a mild cam) can use. Right now,
however, the intake is easily capable of more flow than the air box and
associated bits will provide. Also, I can't imagine that a simple port matching
on the intake will make that substantial of a difference. I'm planning to do
it any way, but I see that as less important than my other concerns.
Of course, if I'm wrong I'm sure someone will point it out.
Cheers,
Colin
