RE: MK1 Gastank... HELP!
Well I have only installed 3 tanks. 1 on a mk1 and 2 on a mk2
scirocco. The only difference I found is that the MK2 scirocco tank is
slightly smaller than the tank off of a Cabrio - (less gallons) but does
fit if you want to carry more fule :) (there was a recall on the cabrio
tank so you can get almost new ones at the wreckers)
Other than that, I know there was a difference with the tank on the old
'77 Automatic I changed. It sounds simmilar. It had a bunch of lines
going into the top of the tank, where as the others did not. I always
assumed it was a difference between auto and standard and not mk1 or mk2
tank.
Not sure if that helps, but a little more info to confuse things..

According to the Bentley manual:
"Exploded view of fuel tank and related parts for cars with fuel
injection
engines (Rabbit shown). Fuel tank for carburetor-equipped engines is
identical, but pump, fuel accumulator, and delivery lines shown are
unique
