Re: FN vs. 4K?
Aaron,
I think a FN may be a tad tall for a stock scirocco if you want any kind
of sporting feel to it. Now on the other hand, if you have a better engine
in there, its a different story. The FN has a shorter first than even a 4K
(after final drive), so its pretty quick off the line (as long as you can
keep the wheels on the ground). The FNs long gearing makes it more suited
for a beefed up engine. Example: I have an FN in the Rieger, and i couldnt
be happier with it. I have shrick 276's and tt race exhaust. It beefs up the
low end enough to drive normally without going over 2500-3000 rpm (yay for
long engine life), but when i wanna put sone cheezy civic in the dust, i use
the 'hand of god' power band between 4500-6000 rpm. Cruising on the highway
is a treat: 100 mph at ~4000 aint half bad. I can hold 130 or so in 5th with
no problem, since it puts me better in the powerband. On top of that all,
the FN is almost like a 6 speed 4K. Now dont get me wrong, i would kill for
a 6 speed quaifed 4K (or even same done to AGB), but i'll deal with the
slightly wider shifts and the extra $2000 in my pocket.
Also note: based on years each tranny was produced, the FN is also less
prone to self-machining syndrome.
