what a day - door lock part numbers? and more...

folks,

i _finally_ dragged my ass over to the oakland pick-n-pull(.com). last time 
i was there was when i was looking for a gas tank for my '76 280z.

anyway, i had a long list of shit to buy..

crankcase breather hose
passenger side door
pass. door lock
windshield (yeah, tberk, i know... DIY) ; )
rear defroster switch (when some dickhead(s) stole shit out of my car, they 
must have fucked up the circuitry and burned the switch solid!)
and some other shit....

i couldn't find any late model 16v sciroccos (A1 MKIIs??), only early 
models and early model jettas and a gti. i did however, find the ever-so 
important door locks. (the spring was broken that retained the hook piece.)

so, here's the question about the door lock part numbers-
the passenger side door lock was - 191 837 016 C
and i replaced it with one from either an 80's jetta or gti, can't 
remember. anyway, the part number is something like 321 836 015 (actually 
this is the driver's side door lock from one of the above..)

long story short, the lock works (no duh), but what i can't figure out is 
how the part numbers are designated. any ideas? are all parts like this??
