Mk2 gauge cluster to a Mk1

Has anyone installed a mk2 instrument cluster into a mk1 rocco?
I was thinking of keeping the stock mk1 dash, but custom fitting a mk2
cluster.  There will be the issue of wiring however...
I know that a complete wiring harness swap is the best solution, but I 
just wondered if anyone has done this without changing the complete harness?
