First, a club CANNOT depend on merchandise sales to support itself. If
Volksport did that we'd be very poor indeed. It certainly helps, but it
still cost $20 a year to be a member. Second, what would we need startup
capital for. What are we starting? The club idea is nice, but
realistically, the jump to an organized international VW from where we are
now is enormous. Volksport has been in existence since '97. In that time,
we've tried to have satellite chapters, and it is a very hard thing to do.
Currently we are talking with our Wisconsin chapter(the next state over from
our home state of Minnesota). They want to separate from the main chapter
because they feel left out, among other reasons.

I definitely support some sort of collection plan to help with the above
aspect of the club. Anything to make the current state of Scirocco.org
better, faster and easier to use. I don't know what the best way to do this
is, but I don't feel that orgainizing into a typical club is the right way
to go about it. I think a typical club is an unwieldy, lumbering beast and
we have a unique oportuninty as a strictly online club to do things
differently.

Thanks Brett. Without the website, none of us would be here in the first
place.
