The car you would want to have your SLAPS counter clerk look up would be the
83-84 GTI, or 85+ Scirocco/Cabriolet. This will net you pads for vented
rotors every time.

Retrofitting vented rotors to older cars is ridiculously easy on all cars
with ATE calipers. For those with Kelsey-Hayes calipers, you will need to
replace those in order to find pads that fit.
