Re: Next level past Mk1 'S' = GTX?
Hello,
yes, of course there were Scirocco GTi and GLi
in Germany. I owned a Scirocco GLi since 4 weeks ago and I still have the badge.
www.Scirocco2.de/whitec26.jpg
"i" is standing for the injected models that were introduced in 1976.
There were Mk1 and Mk2 GTi and GLi.
However, the GTX was only available as Mk2 ,
the difference compared to the GTi was the GTX bodykit, GTX rearwing and
GTX interior. ( to name the most important differences only )
The last Mk1 edition here before the Mk2 was introduced
was the Scirocco "SL"
I don't see much sense in putting a different badge on a car where
it doesn't belong to , it won't run faster
- but just looks stupid to the ones who knows..
But that's just IMHO of course.
friendly Greetings
Dirk ;-)

Tosha,
You remember my old Cosmos 81, the rear badge on it was "SCIROCCO GTI" (ND
was selling them awhile back in the Mk1 font) and I cut the small "GTI" from
a rear "Rabbit GTI" badge and put it on the Scirocco grill like the GTI's
had them.
I thought it was very appropriate because of the fact it was basically a
GTI'd Scirocco. :)
9.4 vented front brakes, 1.8L JH motor, 2H trans, GTI swaybars, all from the
83-84 GTI.
Mars was way beyond what the original GTI was so she got a custom
"Techtonics Tuning" (built the engine) badge in place of the stock "Scirocco
S" badge and a small "TT" badge on the grill.
Badge engineering was always something that bugged me when the car couldn't
back up it's badge. :(
Remember the days of the ///M 318i's, LOL..... and now all the
Civics/Accords (in the US) with the Type R badges.
BTW what is a the difference between the GTI and the GTX and were there ever
any Scirocco GTI's in Europe....anyone????
HTH :^D
