First AutoX completed! woohooooo
Two days shy of my 40th, I FINALLY get out there...been a long wait
this year...I had planned to be autoxing the first week of the season.
But well worth the wait....progressively quicker times (including a
fastest run - last of the day - with my brother in the car...go figure.
Maybe his 200lbs smoothed me out?)
A few rough spots...after run #2, the car "idled" at 5000 RPM...WTH?
Throttle cable was OK, popped off the boot by the a/f meter, that's OK,
as a last resort I removed the boot from the TB and what do I find?
About a 6" x6" piece of emery paper of all things! Seems Madd Matt (my
3-year old) was "helping" Daddy yesterday when I had the boot off to
access the M/C...he likes to put things in odd places...found that the
reason for an odd rattle was a golf ball in the tailpipe...
Learned that HP is not what wins Autox's, it's smoothness, knowing when
to downshift, when not to upshift, when to use a lighter foot on the
throttle, that heavy scrubbing slooows the car, and that Dunlop D40M2's
are OK for a daily driver but not so good on the autox course! Anyhow,
whupped on a Audi a4 Quattro w/ 1.8T, a '90-ish RX7 Turbo, and at least
one Miata...several more, results aint posted yet!
Laterrrr...(BIG FAT GRIN)
