I have non-hub centric wheels on my 85 and have no trouble with them. But 
before I got the "acorn" seat lug bolts for them (as opposed to the standard 
VW "ball" seat) they would vibrate at speeds above 65mph. I also have found 
that the way I tighten the bolts really matters. If I crank one of them down 
really tight first, and then the rest, it will vibrate. I need to seat them 
one by one so that the wheel gets centered, and then incrementally tighten 
them down. (This is the way you are supposed to do it BTW)

If you are using the original VW bolts, and the wheel has the conical seat 
then consider getting the proper bolts.
