81s have 1.6 stamped on them but it is a 1.7L engine by default.

They are all greasy up front in the bay because of the cork valve cover
gaskets. Get a Corrado rubber one from Potter and leak no more (at least
from up there). All the other stuff you describe will need tending to
but is manageable, the rust in the fenders makes me groan but if it's
just the fenders than they can be replaced. 

Make sure the rear axle mount points aren't rusty as well, check around
the windshield's lower corners, look in the rear under the carpet.

Spray some lube in the clock and tap it a bit, it will most likely come
back to life if it has 12v. Add supplemental, uprated ground wires, do a
major tune up (inc. fluids replacement and valve adjustment), start
stocking up replacement parts like shocks and bushings and stuff.

Go for it.
