Dan,
The gaskets should be the same since the manifolds are the same mounting 
points. I used the gaskets for the 1.8L. 

On my 78 for the Hall effect, I got a distributor from an 80 Scirocco. I got 
the wiring and module from a 84 GTI (separate wiring harness instead of the 
scirocco which is integrated into the motor harness). If you use the current 
distributor you have you must change the vacuum advance to the one off of 
your 79 which is vacuum retard and advance instead of just advance (just 
unscrew the new one and screw on your old one). I used my stock coil and have 
had no problems but if you have change it.
