Scirocco Tragedy (reccomended reading)
Hello,
Well, for those of you who live in the Portland, Or area, you already
know about this. A couple of weeks ago, a fella driving his 85 gold
Scirocco with his buddy were traveling through the Sandy area at three digit
speeds. He then lost control of his car, crossing the center line and
blasting head-on into a Dodge Neon driven by a woman and her very young
child. The two survivors were the child (barely) and the driver of the
Scirocco. The woman was killed instantly and the passenger in the Scirocco
died at the scene...
...the Scirocco's engine was found in the ditch 90 yards away.
Needless to say, the driver of the VW is facing a mountain of charges,
the most serious of which are two charges of vehicular manslaughter. He
will be spending an abundance of quality time in the custody of the state.
When the news broadcast footage from the scene, I was surprised to see
that there seemed to be a good chance that the owner of the VW was
enthusiastically Scirocco oriented - G60 wheels, Fuba, lowering suspension
of some sort, etc. Not just some schmuck redneck with an old beat up Rocco.
No, it looked like someone that could very easily have been a subscriber
to this mailing list, though I don't remember his name. Probably some nice
Scirocco enthusiast like you or me. Someone that, like you and me, enjoyed
driving in a spirited fashion and got carried away. Someone who obviously
didn't exercise discretion on that particular day. We all stand on the
pedal from time to time. I like to think that I make the right decisions as
to where and when and under what circumstances it is and definetely isn't
appropriate to drive fast and hard.
This story really sucked...
...and, needless to say, the fact that the accident involved a Scirocco
doesn't make it any more devestating than the thousands of other deadly car
accidents each month involving Fords and Hondas and BMWs.
So be careful you guys. Every guy that I have had the chance to meet
in person on this list has been genuinely and exceedingly pleasant and
friendly. I would hate to hear about any more stories like this...
...anyway, just thought I'd share that with y'all.
Cheers to life!
