I must chime in.  I agree - go with the full-on stock power steering.
IMHO it's one of THE best overall PS setups I've ever driven.  Light
years ahead of my '99 GTI GLX.  It has great feel, a proper ratio,
and the right amount of boost.  I think it's the ideal setup for street 
OR auto-x.
