RE: Removing front swaybar improves handling??

*****That sounds like an interesting setup, I'd like to try it at some
point.
Is the oversteer predictable or does it snap? What
tires/springs/shocks/camber/toe are you running?
I thought the stock front swaybar for the A1-GTI/16V Scirocco was a 19mm.
Is the A1-GTI/16V Scirocco a 16.5mm? Was there a stock 19mm? I believe the
one I have is stock and is 19mm.

Peter again:
I've had the front bar off while doing downpipe repairs on my '88, and it
got right down scary at times, when I pushed it
on a long sweeper or on-ramp, it would really push the rear out, like it
was going to come around on me

*****He he he, boy do I know that feeling, almost lost the car a couple of
times (180'd it once on a cloverleaf in the rain) when I first removed my
front bar, its fun... but dangerous at high speed. I've since gotten used to
it but highly recommend against it on the street. The only reason I don't
have my front bar on yet is due to missing brackets and a bad heim joint,
but soon it will be back on. :-)

*****Shawn's right this would be a great FAQ subject for the Scirocco.org
site. Anyone?

I run a stock 16.5mm front bar and a 28mm rear bar on my '83 GTI,
and it
seems to be a pretty good combination.

I've had the front bar off while doing downpipe repairs on my '88,
and it
got right down scary at times, when I pushed it
on a long sweeper or on-ramp, it would really push the rear out,
like it
was going to come around on me.

I would definitely leave the front bar on, and maybe use a larger
rear
	bar.
