  Sounds similar to something tha plagued me for years, except for the
engine stopping.

  Over the past 3 years, I had to replace a rusted fuel tank, and because
of rust contamination, the fuel filter, the fuel accumulator, the pressure
regulator ... But in order to replace all that, the tech also checked all
the pressures, replaced a few hoses, etc.

  The net result is that the car runs fine now.
