Central locking sys hose to hatch?

Hidyho all!

I've been having trouble with my locks not wanting to lock or unlock very
well and the air pump would run for about 30 secs... that means air leak.

Well, I started at the pump.  It splits into 3 directions after coming out
of the pump (driver's door lock, passenger's door lock, and ?hatch?).
Through the process of elimination, I figured out it was the hose going
back to the hatch.   I could hear the air leak inside the hatch but
couldn't get the trim off the hatch to get to the hose so just plugged the
hole at the splitter from the air pump.

The locks work great now.  The locks drop and rise like magic and the pump
shuts off in about 2 secs!

My question is this:   Why does the hatch get an air hose?   I played with
the hatch lock but haven't noticed it locking or unlocking anything else.
What's supposed to happen?
