FYI

You can special-order a carpeted dash cover with custom embroidering from
Pep Boys via one of their suppliers. I've had mine for 3 years and it
hasn't faded or deteriorated at all.  It was custom cut to a scirocco II
and fits mine perfectly.

I bought it shortly afer buying my car because the dash is in perfect
condition, and I was aware of the common problem of cracks forming.

Price was ~$65.... well worth it (and I dont have too many happy stories
about Pep Boys :)
