You may be paying more than $8-10 per pound, but
that is the over-the-counter price these days.  If you
are paying $80 for a recharge, you are getting ripped.

One thing I noticed right away after the announced
phase-out of freon R-12 was the instant exaggeration
of the problem and its costs.  There was even gloom
and doom about H134a retrofits would destroy your
A/C within weeks.   Ignorance + greed = $$$$$$$.
