[Non-Roc] A2 Jet has cold worrking TACH - WTH?

Multi Platform VDubers,

85 Jetta Tachometer won't register until outside temp drops overnight
below 50F. Soon after I get going it drops out. :( Problem w/ Dash
internal electronics? 
Last time I had a problem like this I parted the Rabbit GTI out and
didn't look back. Must put the Jet down too?  ;[
