Re: ABS on a Roc
I dunno about the whole ABS thing. I drove an 89' Honda Accord without it
(back before I saw the light of VW) for a few years and then a 94' Accord
with ABS, and a 97' Accord as well. You get better control as you crash
with ABS, and I can tell you that from personal experience. It lengthens
your stopping distance on dry pavement as opposed to being able to lock up
all 4 on a non-ABS car. On wet pavement they are sorta nice though.
About 3 years ago I had a guy in front of me doing around 30 mph
over Hwy 92 in CA on a nice sunny day when I was driving the 94 Accord. He
stomped on the brakes because a ground squirrel ran out in front of him. I
was changing stations on the radio and looked up to see him dead stopped in
front of me. I stomped the brakes and the damn ABS wouldn't let me lock up
- went right under his back bumper because of the weight transfer forward.
If I had been driving the 89' I would have been fine.

Mike's right. We had an explorer with ABS, and my wife actually got into an
accident because all 4 wheels locked up and she skid into the person in
front of her. Nice "anti-lock", thanks Ford. Needless to say, we dont own
that thing anymore..
