E-brake

Hey all.  My right rear brake is locked up b/c I had to really crank down on the e-brake when I jacked up my car to do a little work.  I looked back at a few posts concerning this a couple weeks ago but I found nothing telling me how to get it unlocked.  The caliper is about 8 months old.  Anyway I obviously need some help getting it fixed and also a little knowledge about the e-brake and if this will happen again.  TIA
