16V Transmission and "to Quaife or not to Quaife"

The nightmare continues! Well, it's not so much of a nightmare anymore but
it is still a complicated situation.

Here's the latest scoop:

I got a line on a low mileage (under 70k) unit out of a 92 GTI for about
$700. Shortly thereafter, I find out I can get a rebuilt unit for the same
price from GEX International down in L.A., but there is a $200 core charge
and I obviously don't have a viable core to give up.

My question for you folks is: Anyone ever deal with GEX International (they
advertise new and rebuilt engines & transmissions in European Car magazine)
and/or do you know if they are a reputable and reliable operation? Would
YOU buy a rebuilt tranny from them if the price was right?

I'm up in Seattle, of course, so I don't want to deal with a place that is
so far away if some kind of problem came up.

Any solid advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Also, for all you people who want a Quaife ATB differential, I'm looking
into options to get them cheaper than Autotech who wants $1095 for the 020
version.

Thanks.
