AFAIK, the H4 bulb itself is approved for use on US Highways, but not with
a European beam pattern-- the new (96 and up) Honda Civics use H4s, as well
as some assorted Mercedes in the early 90s.  Because of the Civics, look
for an increase in the availability of 55/60w H4s in local auto parts
stores... :)
