alright, i had a VERY disappointing night yesterday. it made me
realize one thing: my car needs more power.
what are my options, people. i want to put my car into the low 13s.
of course i do not want to do this tomorrow, but i want to know what i
can do.
BTW, I DON'T WANT TO CONSIDER ANY KIND OF FORCED INDUCTION (i.e. turbo,
supercharged, nitrous). i want straight motor work.
here's the skinny: i have 2-door mk1 jetta GLI with a 2.0 16V with a
P&P 1.8 head, a TT SS DP/Cat, stock 16V scirocco exhaust, and a scorpion
rear box. i've also got an intake pipe running in from the front of the
car directly into my airbox which has been chopped completely out.
with me in the car (180lbs...ouch), the car weighs about 2380lbs. i
have lowered the suspension about 2 - 2.5" from stock and have the stock
16V roc swaybars. i'm also running some very thrashed 195-50-15 conti
aquacontacts.
the car launches quite well, and i manage to pull ahead of most people
until about midway thru second when the car just seems not to pull with
such demand.
i raced a 92 civic with a fully done gs-r motor last night. he ate me,
the mutherf*cker, and he had serious traction problems right up into
third gear...
so what can i do? i'd like to:
1. get a whole to fuel management system
2. euro intake runners
3. mad shrick cams (276†??)
4. quaife (i know, i know, it doesn't make sense unless you've got 300+
hp)
5. freer-flowing exhaust maybe? (i still have the cat on there)
6. balanced and blueprinted motor
7. lightened flywheel
8. pistons? connecting rods?
any other suggestions or opinions on this list?
oh yeah, can anyone tell me if there is any real advantage to opening
the car up to a 2.1 or larger? i mean, will the motor eat gobs of oil
and end up going kaput on me, or is it a fairly reliable setup? thanks
a million!
