Rear Wiper

On my 1982, it works like this:

A quick push forward: one swipe

If I hold the stalk forward: wash and three swipes.

This is the factory settup for 1982 Scirocco.

the rear wiper on my 85 seems to not want to turn on in any mode other
than
washer mode.- I hit the stalk, the wash motor comes on, I get three back
to
back swipes and that is it-

it this thing messed up or am I doing it wrong? if it is messed up, gotta
fix
for it?
