broken frame?

I may be in big trouble here.

Alignment shop (actually a good guy, known him for years) says the frame on
my rocco is broken.  (she won't hold an alignment for over 30 minutes of
driving) I haven't looked to see for myself, but I have no reason not to
believe him.

the questions are:
 will it be worth repairing, or will I soon be in the market for another
rocco?

The frame shops around here say minimum cost will be $300......

Can a good welder (but not a frame shop) take care of it?

anyone have any thoughts or suggestions, or a Scirocco II for sale cheap in
the Dallas area?
