this happened to mine 3 years ago. i just put about 6 washers on the
bolt on the side so the alt. will sit on top of them. that with the
bolt on the back and a firm adjusting screw and bracket and i've had NO
problems....for 3 years. $290 alt or 23 cents worth of washers....

not to add to your frustration, but ALL of this could have been done by
you. and a month??! i can see your frustration, that's a ludicrously
long time for that. if you work leisurely, a timing belt will take 2
hours, alt will take 20 minutes, two half shafts would take 3 to 4
hours, pass side mount half hour to take it off, take it to a machine
shop to press a new one in (or just get the complete mount and avoid the
machine shop), half hour to put it back on. one weekend and i little
bit of dirty hands and scraped knuckles is all it takes.... one day if
you go morning to night...
