Ja, it was developed way in advance to the VW factory's 16v (or, at least,
they were working on it and hadn't released it; they seem to tinker on their
prototypes for about 7 years before selling them to the public).  Far as I
know, the 16S Golf was only sold in France.  Oh, also, it cost almost twice
what the stock GTI did.
