82' Scirocco (1.7l) stuttering a bit...

One important point that I missed - your 1982 Scirocco has the sh*tty
single outlet manifold - get a dual outlet manifold from an earlier
Scirocco (1981 or earlier) or a Rabbit.

Out of the box I'd say you'll go from 74 to 95hp, assuming you keep the
dual outlet manifold & downpipe.

The Audi 5000/ A2 VW / Neuspeed TB (all the same) will give you maybe 3
hp (at least that's what the dyno says) only if you port match the TB to
the intake.

I would upgrade your 60mm airflow meter to the 80mm size - this will give
you about 5hp right off the bat.

The 1.7 is a good motor. The main problem is the head. The valves are
34/32 compared with 40/33 on the JH head. Put a big valve head on the 1.7
block, then . . . The early GTi motors (euro) were 1.6 and put out 110
hp.

On my 1981S, I had the 1.7 combined with an 80mm air flow meter and a
full Techtonics 2" exhaust. It kicked!

Ok, I'll definetely get that fixed, as well as the f-inj rings...
BTW, what would be the hp gain I'd get from upgrading to a GTI 1.8? (I
think it's a JH code engine)...
I heard that you can use an Audi throttle body, but you have to do some
work on the intake manifold to make the opening wider... Whats the
amount of difficulty on this mod??? (what's hooking up the accelerator
cable like? or is it just the same?)
Also, does that GTI 1.8 have the so-called restrictive exhaust that I've
been hearing about? Should I keep the same exhaust manifold from my
1.7???
whew! thanks for answering my questions :)
