It's in the middle. The acrylic you're talking about is part of the
windshield's safety features. Your windshield is a sandwich of
glass with acrylic (or something) in the middle, which is there
to keep the glass from fragmenting in a crash. I'd guess that it's
a little cloudy around the fractures, too.
There's nothing that can be done about it that I know of. New
stuff happens all the time, though....
