16v exhaust upgrade

It's about time to replace the exhaust in my 16v. I'd like some input
from you guys as to the best approach (through what you have heard or
experience). I've got a try-y header in my 8v with a TT 2" exhaust and
love it. Are there any reasonably priced headers for the 16v out there,
and please throw in your $.02 as to the pros and cons. Or should I get
a euro down pipe? Since there are no emissions or inspection laws in my
state, I'm thinking of dumping the cat (did it on my 8v) or having the
cat gutted. Which is the best approach?
I've heard, and correct me if I'm wrong, that the stock exhaust on the
16v is 2.25" in diameter. From the same person I heard this from, he
suggested cutting out the mid pipe, replace it with a straight pipe and
get a turbo muffler and slap that on with a resonating tip. Cool idea
or smoke up my arse???
Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance...
