They sure are making it hard for us to make AWD A-1's!
Sounds like a cool system, tho....and 6 GEARS! YEAH!!!!

Syncro Out. 4Motion In.



          The current Syncro AWD systems on the A3 platform
          (Golf IV, Jetta IV, Audi A3, and New Beetle) are on
          the way out, to be replaced with 4Motion. Haldex of
          Sweden has developed a new system utilizing a plate
          clutch and hydraulic pump. When a difference in
          rotation speed is detected, the hydraulic pump makes
          the plate clutch mesh, gradually letting in the rear
          differential. A new, space-saving multi-link rear
          suspension comes with this system. Electronics
          prevent 4Motion from cutting in while cornering, and
          can, if required, change from full FWD to full AWD for
          limited amounts of time. This system also reportedly
          comes standard with a SIX speed transmission. It is
          not known yet whether we will see this system here in
          North America. Stay tuned for more info soon.
