I need to do to the shifter or linkage?

I think it's from a '78 Scirocco, but who knows? I bought it from a
mechanic, and that's what he told me. It's even got a mount attached to it!

FWIW, The tranny is from at least a '79. I have a '78 and I missed the
5-speeds by one year. The linkages are different. The vertical rod, coming
up from the ball, is longer to accomodate the extra L/R throw needed for the
5th gear and one of the relay rods are longer to keep the shifter in the
correct position.
Have Fun.
