Something I was meaning to jump in and say earlier (I've been lazy lately) is 
that if you remove the switch from the tranny and plug it in and press in the 
pins, the backup lights just might come on. It works great like this in mine, 
the pins on the switch (What is that, pencil lead? GMAFB!) are just too worn 
to be depressed in far enough to give us the light to the rear we like to 
have when going in that *other* direction.
