small project : mixture control from control panel.

Hi,

I have a weird idea.  Can I control the mixture from inside by 
putting some kind of signal generator on the O2 sensor?  I'm pretty 
good in electronics so don't be afraid to be specific.

Could a small potentiometer work?  I'd really like to maximize my 
fuel economy during long trips and maintaining the power 'round town. 

All comments / idea appreciated.
