ALmost ALL the "close-ratio" trannies built anywhere between about
roughly cause I don't remember) 82-87/8
have the "self-machining"  (no circlip) problem.  This has been discussed
numerous times before (I've lost 2 1-4K and a 9A) especially on the watercooled
news group.  Its common, its about 130K+us Miles and happens suddenly.
This affects ALL 4K and 9A's.  Even the 16v close-ratio rocco' is affected.

You can buy a kit to replace the circlip OR just get a LSD ^_^
I believe Velocity has a nice kit that is inexpensive.  It IS a major
job to break this thing open, though.  I THINK there are 2 types of Bentley
manuals, 1-service the other a official repair manual?  Only the
repair manual shows the interior tranny workings.  though I could be
wrong, as I have never seen the official ones.
