I had similiar problems, turned out to be my transfer pump. Figured this out
after I changed the fuel pump. So I ended up changing both main and tranfer
pump.
The transfer pump is a lot cheaper, make sure it's not that before you buy a new
fuel pump.
Frannk, what's the "hall sender harness" ?
Hope that helps,
Kevin.

Some may not agree, but It may be a hall sender problem. Mine did
that two weeks ago, would idle great at startup (good sign of gas
reaching the engine); then fluctuate (RPM ranging from 0 to 3000 in
seconds going up&down as it pleases, like its hunted!!
Check the hall sender harness & inside plug. Make sure everything is
snug fit inside.
Hope this helps.
Frank
BTW I am pretty novice to this stuff, but I'm just sharing what
worked for me. do not take apart your distributor, just check the
plug for now.
