Re: 2.0L 16V
The difference between a 2.0 16V and a 1.8 8V engine? Heh, it's like asking
the difference between a straight-6 and a V8.
The 1.8 litre engines have a pressed steel valve cover, and the spark plugs
sticking diagonally out of the front side of the head. A 2.0L 16 valve
engine has a very large valve cover, cast lovingly out of aluminum. It
really is a sight to see, though I'm told the spark plugs are a little tough
to get at. The spark plug wires go right through the top of the valve cover
(in a 16 valve engine, the plug is located square in the top of the
combustion chamber; in an 8 valve, it's off to the side). The disributor in
a 16V sits on the end of one of the cams, and points to the driver's side
quarter panel. In an 8-valve, the distributor is located on the front of the
engine, pointing towards the sky.
Have you ever seen a traditional 8-valve? Trust me; you'll know a 2.0L when
you see it...the air intake plenums and valve covers pretty much consume the
top of the engine bay. Neat stuff.
Good luck!
