VW Pickup - is it worth anything?

My Fiancee and I have been looking for a new daily for her to drive, she wants out from under her Celica payment.  She's gung-ho about the diesel idea and the only freaking vw diesels we can find around here are Caddys.  :P  Every other ad reads like this:  FS 1981 Rabbit Diesel.  No floor.  Rusted hatch.  Interior shot.  2 of the 4 doors do not open.  Windows do not work.  Cracked windshield.  Car ran great 10 years ago, but has not moved since.  $10,000 OBO.

Ok I might be exaggerating a little....  

Right now the plan is to find a nice A2 GTI that's clean and straight and someday down the road swap a diesel into it, aka "GTD".

She's had a few hits on her Celica but no definite buyers yet.  Anybody know someone looking for a 2000 Celica GT, Black, 5-speed?  It has some dings and scratches, but runs great, good MPG, and lots of fun to drive- almost reminds me of being in a Mk1- it's light, nimble, the engine is torquey, and the gears are really close.  She's looking to get $7500 for it.

Caddys are awesome!  In good shape, they can fetch a pretty penny, and 
they're a hoot to drive, and offer real utility for hauling more stuff 
than'll fit in a Scirocco. Definitely worth checking out, especially if
 
it's a diesel.
