lost speedo gear
Yeah, well there's a lesson in this.
If you don't pull the speedo cable straight out the gear can hang up on the
inside of the case and pull off the end of the cable.
So, you need to be a little careful pulling it out. (Said the chorus girl to
the Bishop!)
You might try a really long set of needle nose pliers.
A friend of mine recently had the same issue. Never did get the speedo gear
out of there but continues to drive the car.
I guess the good news is the gear is plastic and everything else in there is
hardened metal.
If you can't fish it out of there (no way it'll come out the drain since the
ring gear is in the way) I'd change the gear lube every once in a while to
try to flush out the ground up bits of plastic.
