Looking to replace the interior surfaces in my "new" '76. It isn't all *that* bad. Nowhere near the nastiest I've ever seen. But after 30 years, it just plain needs new carpet and uphostry.
I purchased a TMI carpet kit for the '77 a few years ago. It is "OK-to-good", but I wasn't really blown away by the quality. I'd get it again if no better options are out there, but am curious about other peoples' experience. I've researched Vortex and such, and found a number of other companies that make kits too. Anyone have any experience to share? Not necessarily concerned about being a perfect OEM match in terms of color or style of carpet, but looking for a good quality fit/finish. I'd be OK if a true Scirocco zealot like Daun noticed it wasn't a true original color or weave, but nobody else would realize it wasn't original because it fit so well.
And how about upholstery? Since it isn't a race car, I'm considering rejuvenating the stock seats. I'd need both the foam and the covers. Kinda the same story as carpet. In fact, preferably NOT the OEM vinyl, but perhaps some cloth that looks good and won't remove skin on a hot summer day. I see TMI makes that too, but I haven't heard whether it is any good or not.
And if TMI is the choice, does anyone recommend a retailer, since TMI doesn't sell to the public?
Oh, and headliner opinions are welcome too. But the '77 headliner came from JC Whitney, and I'm really quite satisfied with it, so if nobody knows anything better I'll be happy to get that again.
