Testing while fuel system down

Sorry about that (kid in my ear yakking about school and no school on 
Friday).  Since the car was flooding out before, it was hard to see if 
everything in the starting system was working properly.  And I want to 
circulate that new oil and get the rest of the fuel residue out.  I would 
like to see if the really rough sounding start (or attempted start) was the 
flooding and gassy oil, or something else.  Basically, I don't want to have 
to put the fuel distributor back together to keep progressing on the car.

Also, anyone got a good "Install a Stereo in You Scirocco for Dummies" tech 
guide?  I haven't installed a stereo in about 12 years and don't think I 
have ever tried without a harness.
