Anybody with digi I experience?

Gordy and I have been racking our brains with a wiring issue.

 We have a 90 Corrado engine harness mated to a 77 Scirocco harness.  We
needed a 5-pin digi relay ... got it.  Now we have a problem with the fuel
pump relay (old school and Corrado application);  87 is acting like ground
and 85 is getting output.  We haven't attempted to plug the ECU back in for
fear of frying the chip.

All of the grounds appear to be really solid and I can't find a break in the
fuel pump power(87).  If I had hair I would've pulled it out by now.
