expansion tank replacements

No problem...

Yeah, the A1/A2 reservoirs are known for cracking...

What type of bottle failed on you?

The al bottle would look nice, but I like being able to glance over at the
bottle and know if I'm low or not.
Especially since you can't open up the cooling system at operating
temperature, to check the coolant level.

The bottle itself looks fine. I figure I could put something snazzy like a
brushed aluminum canister in there if I'm gonna go to the effort of putting
a bracket on. Another factor is I've had one of the plastic bottles fail in
the past.

thanks for the info about the bracket

Yes, but why would you want it as an expansion tank?

If it's round like the B3 reservoirs, the bracket actually screws on, but
could be welded, or adapted to fit the older wedge brackets, like the washer
bottle has.

I welded a 16V Scirocco reservoir bracket on the driver's side strut tower
of my '79 Scirocco, by using the factory spot welds, after drilling them out
on the bracket.

...And like Joe said, a new bottle is a cheap way to clean up the engine
bay.
